Singer, Songwriter, Actress, KD Rose also known by many as KD Aubert, has taken the music industry by storm with the release of her hot new electronic dance single “Falling” which is available for download at iTunes.com. The single has gained major momentum and buzz, receiving over 152K streams on Soundcloud in less than a month.
Hi beautiful KD, So tell us more about you & when exactly did you realize you had the passion for modelling & the Entertainment Industry?
It was definitely a journey– there were several phases to my modeling career. Early on, I was a hair model, mostly for the extra income (and free products). I was pretty young and also a size 14 at the time but the pictures only displayed my face and hair. It wasn’t until I actually saw myself inside those magazines, in print, that my drive and passion for modelling and entertainment kicked in.
When I saw myself in those photos for the first time, I realized that no career path or life choice is truly out of reach if you have the spirit and perseverance to pursue it, and just like that, I had a new goal to work towards. Beyond entertainment, my first step was to better myself, both mentally and physically. It wasn’t until I met Crista Clayman, an agent with LA Models, that my actual career in modelling gained momentum. Crista was and is an amazing supporter, and friend, of mine.
She took a personal interest in me, helping me stick to my healthy lifestyle, giving me my start in modelling on a professional level, and guiding me throughout the process. She was the person that walked me into the door of my first professional acting manager at Evolution. I am so thankful to her for seeing something special in me.
How did it feel to play the part of “Stacey” and to be nominated as “Best Supporting Actress” @ the African Oscars, in the amazing movie “Turning Point” Produced by –Niyi Towolawi & Co producer –Egor Efiok (CEO- E4PR)?
I really enjoyed playing the role of Stacey because the character has such a different personality than my own. It was definitely a fun role because it allowed me to embody someone who is vulnerable and submissive, two words that do not describe me in my real life.
This film was my first experience acting in a Nollywood film and interacting with Nollywood audiences. I wanted to connect with the viewer in a meaningful way and give them a person and story that they could relate to on several levels. That was my goal for Stacey. I was elated and honoured to receive my African Oscar nomination and win because it allowed me to see that I had achieved my goal; I had succeeded in making that connection to Nollywood cinema and audiences. Nollywood is a growing industry and I am proud to be a part of it. In fact, I have received an offer to star in another Nollywood film in the works so that may be something to look out for soon.
What are some of your other upcoming projects?
In addition to the Nollywood film I mentioned, I have a film in post-production right now called “Lap Dance”. It’s a provocative and thrilling film surrounding the erotic dancing industry.
It was a really fun film to shoot and it has an amazing cast. James Remar, Lynn Whitfield, Briana Evigan, and Stacey Dash. It was pretty thrilling to play not only an erotic dancer but also a lesbian, with Carmen Electra as my lover!
I have also been working on some TV show pilots, which has been pretty cool. My birthday is coming up too and that’s always a giant project!
What do you enjoy most about being a model and actress and who are some of your biggest influences in the modelling and entertainment industry?
Tyra Banks has always been a big influence on me in the modelling world. Other models I look up to are Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, models who have made a lasting impact on the industry. They had the ability to take something small and turn it into something great, a legacy. Their names have staying power, and I hope to one day leave such a lasting impression.
My influences in acting include Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Leonardo Dicaprio, Mark Wahlberg- a lot of guys actually. I do have a few female influences, however, like Angelina Jolie and Meryl Streep. Those are people I dream to work with one day. I idolize actors that do great work, no matter how large or small the scale of the project. Independent films are some of my favourite and have moved me the most.
I always tell people this ;” if it’s something you really want to do, make sure it’s truly your passion”.
What advice & tips would you give to young aspiring models, actresses and TV personalities to be?
Passion is what keeps you going, what keeps you motivated, and persevering through the most difficult times. This is true of any goal in life.
What or who inspires & motivates you daily?
My family, my brothers and sister, and my faith.
What is your philosophy in life?
What you put in to it is what you get out of it. I got this mantra from a book by Miguel Ruiz, called “The Four Agreements”.
Through this read I found a wonderful philosophy to live by, and learned a lot about myself in the process.
The four agreements are to be impeccable with your word, not to take anything personally, not to make assumptions, and to always do your best. It offers inspiring, yet grounded advice, words that I try to hold true to in my daily life.
What are your top Health and Beauty tips that keep you looking radiant and glowing?
I drink lots of water, I get lots of sleep, and multivitamins.
You also starred in the movie “Percentage”, playing the role of “Jackie” Directed by Alex Merkin, how did it feel to be in the Movie in (2012)?
What’s interesting is that I was actually shooting “Percentage” at the same time that I was shooting “Turning Point”. It was a very busy time for me, flying back and forth from locations, but also wonderful. I love keeping busy, it brings out the fire in me, and I think my work in both roles showcased that.
What other Activity or hobby do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Deep sea fishing (she laughs). Really though, I have friends who love to fish. They took me out and I’ve been joining them on their adventures ever since.
Mentoring young girls is also something I am passionate about doing in my spare time. Adolescence is a difficult time and it’s important that kids and teens have someone they can open up to, and learn from.
I really care about what’s going on with “black youths in the community”. I volunteer at Crenshaw High School and am trying to set up an after school program for young black girls. The program would go beyond mentoring to teaching them business skills, like proper etiquette. I want them to feel like they have a voice and a chance for success in the business community. It’s starting small but I’m hoping it will grow.
